Images show plans to transform Glasgow city centre
The proposals include a hotel, build to rent apartments, offices, bars, restaurants and shops at Candleriggs Square.
New images show how ambitious plans for Candleriggs Square could transform part of Glasgow's Merchant City.
An updated planning application has been submitted by Candleriggs Developments 2 Ltd, which could see the arrival of a hotel, build to rent apartments, offices, bars, restaurants and shops.
The 500-bed hotel would be operated by The Student Hotel, a service which also offers space for businesses.
It “brings together short and long term guests around communal facilities and shared activities that are available to everyone”, including neighbours.
A planning report said: “The Student Hotel (TSH) is a new and innovative hotel service for the UK; already working successfully across Europe, including in The Netherlands, Spain, Portugal, Germany, Italy and France, it accommodates a variety of guests who wish to stay for varied periods of time, from one night to one year.
“The overall offer includes a range of common areas, facilities and services, including a restaurant and bar, a gym, areas for quiet and areas for play, as well as catering and cleaning services and a variety of clubs and activities for guests and neighbours that are organised and managed by the TSH team.
“At its heart each TSH has a large co-working facility, available to any sole practitioner or local business looking for high quality, flexible workspace.”
As part of the Candleriggs development, the ‘Collab’ area would be a “significant part of the offer”, covering 1500sq.m.
“This will be a considerable asset to the City and will contribute to employment, economic development and local small businesses,” the planning report adds.
Meeting and event space, including an auditorium, will also be available for hire for businesses, community and cultural activities.
Every TSH in Europe also provides bicycles for guests to use.
The development site is bounded by Trongate/Wilson Street/Hutcheson Street/Brunswick Street.
It is made up of five parts, with plot A allocated for the hotel and plot B for 350 Build to Rent apartments as well as ground floor shops.
The other three plots are only applications for planning permission in principle and could have a hotel, residential or office use.
