The body of a man has been recovered from the River Clyde following an incident on the Erskine Bridge.

The man is yet to be identified and enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident.

Emergency services were alerted shortly before 11am on Monday to reports of concern for a person on the bridge.

The A898 road was closed in both directions as police, HM Coastguard and the Scottish Fire & Rescue Service carried out a search for the man.

Motorists were warned to avoid the area if possible - with heavy traffic appearing on both routes.

The northbound carriageway was opened shortly before 12pm. The southbound road remained restricted, but was reopened with one lane running by 1pm.

The road fully reopened by 2.10pm.
