The 39-year-old was stabbed several times during the attempted murder in Paisley on Wednesday.
A man has suffered a punctured lung after being stabbed in an attempted murder in Paisley.
The 39-year-old victim appeared at a hospital covered in blood after the attack that took place on Wednesday morning.
However, he has been unable to provide an exact location of the murder bid.
He remains in hospital in a stable condition but it is believed he suffered a punctured lung in the incident.
Police are now appealing for information to try and identify the location.
Detective Constable Steven Craig said: "It's imperative we find out where this man was attacked so we can maximise forensic opportunities.
"I appreciate that there is no location for people to focus on but we believe the attack took place in the west end of Paisley.
"What I am asking people to do is focus on the blue and white striped hat, did you see a man wearing this hat or did you see a woman wearing pink trousers in your street?
"If you have any information, no matter how insignificant it seems to you, please do pass it on and let us decide its relevance.
"We will assess it and check out any street names provided which may turn out to be where the crime has taken place. "
