Two men have admitted killing a security guard at a housing development.

Scott Pearson, 21, and Ryan Hunter, 27, admitted culpable homicide over the death of Mohammad Abu Sammour last October, however will still face trial for murder.

Both men appeared at the High Court in Glasgow on Friday, where they each offered to plead guilty to a reduced charge of culpable homicide.

But prosecutor Murdoch MacTaggart told the court: "The plea is not acceptable."

It means Pearson and Hunter will stand trial for murder in September.

The fatal attack is said to have occurred at the Torrance Gardens development in Newarthill, Lanarkshire, last October 28.

It is alleged the pair were acting with an unnamed person and assaulted Mohammad while he was working.

The charge includes claims the 49-year-old was punched as well as hit with a knuckleduster and brick.

Mohammad is said to have been knocked unconscious and hit with a vehicle, which was then driven over him.

The indictment states he was so severely injured, he later died in hospital.

The pair also face a charge of attempting to defeat the ends of justice.
