Seven youths, aged between 11 and 16, have been charged in connection with a violent disturbance in a busy Glasgow street.

A 17-year-old man and 84-year-old woman were taken to hospital following the incident, which took place on Sauchiehall Street at around 7.50pm on Tuesday.

The teenage victim, who was seriously assaulted, was later released from Glasgow Royal Infirmary after receiving medical treatment.

The pensioner, who was injured as a result of falling during the disturbance, remains in hospital.

A Police Scotland spokeswoman confirmed an 11-year-old, two 13-year-olds, two 14-year-olds, a 15-year-old and 16-year-old have been charged in connection with the incident and will be subject of a report to the procurator fiscal.

The spokeswoman said: "Around 7.50pm on Tuesday, February 26, a report was received that a number of youths were involved in a disturbance outside a store in Sauchiehall Street.

"A 17-year-old man was seriously assaulted. He was taken to Glasgow Royal Infirmary for treatment and has since been released.

"An 84-year-old woman was also injured as a result of falling. She was also taken to hospital for treatment, where she remains.

"A number of youths have been charged in connection with the incident and will be subject of a report to the Procurator Fiscal."
