A murder victim who was found dead on wasteground was the target of a previous attempt on his life.

The body of Darren Sinclair, 27, was discovered beside a footpath in Drumchapel, Glasgow on Tuesday morning.

Mr Sinclair survived a previous attempted murder bid earlier this year.

Two men, who can't be named due to legal reasons, appeared at court in Glasgow last month but no further dates have been set.

As Police Scotland launched a murder investigation, Detective Chief Inspector Mark Bell declined to comment on the previous alleged incident.

But he appealed for anyone with information to come forward.

A member of the public found Mr Sinclair's body beside a path leading from Kinfauns Drive.

Detectives are examining CCTV footage in and around the area and conducting door to door enquiries.

A police cordon remains in place around a large area of wasteground adjacent to schools including Langfaulds Primary and Drumchapel High.

Mr Sinclair, a father of one, was last seen alive at a nearby shopping centre on Monday night.

DCI Bell, speaking at the scene of the murder, said: "I firmly believe that the answer to this lies within this community.

"Darren was local to this community, he's unfortunately died in this community, and his associates are in this community. There is no reason for my investigation to leave this community.

"Has he planned to go and meet someone, had he planned to go to someone's house, was he in someone's house having a party, was there a pre-planned event?

"These are key gaps in the time line that I need to fill in order to ascertain what happened to Darren.

"This has been a brutal dreadful murder that's happened in the heart of this community."
