A police station has closed after the reception counter's windows were allegedly damaged during a disturbance.

A 48-year-old man has been arrested in respect to the incident, which is said to have taken place shortly before 4pm on Wednesday at Falkirk police office.

On social media, Forth Valley Police Division posted: "Following an incident this afternoon at Falkirk police office, we have had to close the reception to the public until further notice.

"You can contact police on 101 or in case of emergency 999."

A Police Scotland spokeswoman later confirmed the reception will be closed until further notice.

They added: "A 48-year-old man has been arrested following a disturbance at Falkirk Police Station, during which damage was caused to the windows of the public counter, shortly before 4pm on Wednesday, October 31.

"Enquiries are ongoing."
