A 43-year-old man has died after being hit by a car in East Ayrshire.

The victim was struck by a white Toyota Auris as he walked west along the A71, near to Barrwood Gate in Galston.

The incident happened at around 7.10pm on Saturday.

Emergency services attended, however the man died at the scene.

Police constable Gordon Stewart said: "We are appealing for anyone who was in the area last night who may have seen the man prior to the incident, or the white Toyota Auris.

"We urge anyone with information, or dashcam footage, to come forward."
