A fire which destroyed an Edwardian hospital in Glasgow was likely started deliberately, police believe.

The blaze tore through the old Stobhill Hospital on Balornock Street on Tuesday night.

At its height, more than 100 firefighters were involved in tackling the fire.

Following a joint investigation with the Scottish Fire Service, police have now confirmed they are treating the blaze as wilful.

A spokesman urged anyone with information on the incident to contact Maryhill CID on 101.

Stobhill Hospital was originally opened in 1904 and closed its doors in 2009 when a new £100m campus was opened nearby.

The building has been unoccupied ever since.
