A body has been found in a river in the search for a missing woman.

Lynn Tyeson was visiting family and friends in Dumfries when she disappeared at 3am on Sunday.

Divers pulled a body out of the River Nith, south of Kingholm Quay, in Dumfries at 1.15pm on Wednesday after being alerted by a member of the public.

The 48-year-old, from Cumbernauld, was last seen near the river on a night out.

Officers have yet to identify the body but officers have informed Ms Tyeson's family of the discovery.

A Police Scotland spokesman said: "At about 1.15pm on Wednesday, officers searching for the missing woman Lynn Tyeson were alerted by a member of the public to the discovery of a woman's body in the water in the River Nith, south of Kingholm Quay.

"Underwater search officers assisted by the coastguard and Nith Inshore Rescue staff have recovered the body, which has still to be identified."
