A pair of beavers released into the wild as part of a scheme which aims to reintroduce the species to Scotland have been caught on camera together.

It is the first time beavers bred in captivity for the programme have been filmed as a couple, according to the Royal Zoological Society of Scotland.

Harris, who was born in Kent and his mate Alba, from the Highland Wildlife Park, have been living together in the Knapdale Forest in Argyll.

RZSS conservation programme manager Ben Harrower said: "It's fantastic to see Alba and Harris getting along so well and I have high hopes that they will breed and produce beaver kits in the future.

"Alba established herself on the lochan after being released in October and, after a health and genetic screening, Harris was deemed to be a potential suitor.

"We released him in the same location in March and waited to see if they would pair up."

Alba and Harris are among 28 beavers being released into the Knapdale Forest.
