A man has appeared in court charged with spitting on a priest outside a church during an Orange Order march.

Bradley Wallace, 24, allegedly assaulted Canon Thomas White, 43, by repeatedly spitting on him outside St Alphonsus' church in Glasgow on July 7.

The charge is said to be aggravated by religious prejudice.

The priest was allegedly assaulted on the day an Orange walk went passed his chapel on Stevenston Street in Glasgow's Calton area.

Wallace, from Uddingston, South Lanarkshire, appeared in private from custody on Thursday at Glasgow Sheriff Court where he was represented by John Coogan and made no plea.

He was released on bail and is expected to appear at court at a later date.
