Baby named after ambulance technician in roadside birth
Phill and Michelle Douglas gave their newborn the middle name Rachel.
A couple have named their newborn after the ambulance technician who delivered the baby at the side of the road.
Phill and Michelle Douglas planned to have their child at the Royal Alexandra Hospital in Paisley.
But they only got as far as Helensburgh before it became clear the baby would make an early appearance.
Technician Rachel Mackie helped deliver Ashley safely at the roadside with the help of paramedic Darren McCormick.
As a result, Phill and Michelle decided to give their baby the middle name Rachel.
"They started taking us to the Royal Alexandra Hospital, in Paisley," said Phill. "They thought we would get there comfortably.
"Rachel was in the back of the ambulance looking after Michelle. She asked Darren to pull over because the baby's head was out.
"Darren pulled over incredibly right across the road from Victoria Hall, where we got married.
"They were both amazing and just made the birth perfect. Not only do they save lives, they help bring them into the world."
