Man charged after priest 'spat on' during Orange Walk
The 24-year-old man allegedly assaulted the priest outside a church in Glasgow.
A man has been arrested and charged after a priest was 'spat on' during an Orange Order march.
The 24-year-old man allegedly spat on and verbally abused 43-year-old Canon Tom White outside St Alphonsus' Church in Glasgow.
The incident allegedly happened when he was speaking to parishioners at around 5.15pm on Saturday, July 7.
The accused is due to appear at Glasgow Sheriff Court on Thursday.
A report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.
Superintendent John McBride said: "This was a despicable and shocking incident and I would like to take this opportunity to thank members of the public for their support during our investigation.
"Police Scotland takes any form of hate crime extremely seriously and I hope this sends a clear message that this type of deplorable behaviour will not be tolerated."
