An animal shelter in Glasgow has put out an urgent appeal for water donations after its tank broke.

The Scottish SPCA said although the water can still be used to clean the animals, it is too contaminated to be used as drinking water.

It could be two weeks before the tank is fixed, and so the Cardonald centre is desperate for donations.

Assistant manager of the centre, Katrina Cavanagh, said: "We're appealing to locals in the Glasgow area to donate water for the animals in our care.

"We have a problem with our water tank and it could be a few days before we have clean drinking water.

"Unfortunately this has meant our team has had to take regular trips to buy bottled water which is very costly."

Anyone who wants to help is asked to drop bottled water off at the centre at 125 Kinnell Avenue, Cardonald, G52 3RY.

The centre is open from 10am until 4pm but if it is shut people can leave water by the gate.

Alternatively, it has set up an Amazon wishlist for people who want to donate but are further away.
