As Scotland continues to enjoy a heatwave, the number of people flocking to the coast puts extra pressure on those who save lives at sea.

At 25, Callum Govus is the UK's youngest lifeboat coxswain, and recently took delivery of one of the RNLI's newest Shannon Class lifeboats to his Girvan base.

He told STV News about his experience at sea, and what inspires him to risk his life - alongside his volunteer crew - in the challenging conditions.

"My godfather had a fishing boat so when I was 11 I came down the harbour and started getting to know the fisherman and get on their boats and shovel prawns for them into a basket - and I've been down here ever since," he said.

"Being here right now and being in charge of the lifeboat is a big deal - there are people with more experience than me but I've got a good team behind me and I'm looking to push it forward and get more crew through the door."

He added: "I've been talking to a lot of schools and they've been looking up to me because I'm quite young.

"If there are kids that want to join it's not hard to get your foot through the door and if you're willing to learn it does make you feel good walking off the boat knowing that you've helped save the crew."
