Glasgow has had its warmest ever day with temperatures reaching 31C.

Warm air from Africa has brought record-breaking heat to parts of the country.

Glasgow has reached 31C, meaning it's the hottest day in the city since records began.

Renfrewshire is also the warmest it has ever been while Strathallan, Perth, also reached 31C.

In Ayr, hundreds of people flocked to the beach to enjoy the sunshine.

The warm weather has also caused major travel delays.

Commuters faced huge tailbacks on the M8 after a crash involving a sports car.

An Audi R8 crashed next to junction 2 near Edinburgh at 1.40pm on Thursday.

No one was injured in the smash.

Police warned drivers who were stuck in the tailbacks not to get out their vehicles due to the heat.

Train delays are also being caused by the hot temperatures.

Services have been cancelled between Bathgate and Edinburgh due to high track temperatures.

ScotRail said the disruption is expected to last until 7pm.

Cancellations and reduced services will also be in place from Glasgow Central high level.

The roof of the Glasgow Science Centre has also melted, resulting in black adhesive running down the side of the building.
