A teenager has sustained serious facial injuries after being attacked on a city street.

At around 4.30pm on Monday, the 17-year-old boy was walking along Bardowie Street, Glasgow, when he was hit by an object thrown by a group of youths sitting at the bandstand.

He confronted the group, comprising of girls and boys, but some turned on him and attacked him.

He sustained a serious facial injury and was taken to Glasgow Royal Infirmary where he was treated and has since been released.

Detective constable Chris Lafferty said: "It would appear that this group of youths, both girls and boys, all white and aged between 12 and 17 years, had been throwing objects at passers-by and this boy reacted to being hit.

"We know that there were a number of people in the area at the time and indeed, at least one person broke up the fight.

"We would ask that person contact police, as well as others who were there and saw what happened.

"The injured boy did not do anything wrong and his injury will leave a scar, so we have to get those responsible."
