Prime Minister reaffirms commitment to Ayrshire Growth Deal
She reaffirmed her commitment at Prime Minister's Questions on Wednesday.
Prime Minister Theresa May has reaffirmed the government's commitment to the Ayrshire Growth Deal.
At Prime Minister's Questions on Wednesday, she responded to a question from Scottish Conservative MP Bill Grant on the subject.
She told MPs that the deal will bring local, regional and national economic benefits to the UK, and that negotiations are continuing.
Officials met on Monday to discuss aerospace proposals at Prestwick airport with work continuing on other projects across the Ayrshire region.
Mr Grant, the MP for Ayr, Carrick and Cumnock, is a longstanding advocate for a spaceport to be based at Prestwick airport as part of a wider Growth Deal.
He said: "I welcome discussions that have taken place this week on the aerospace industry.
"The potential for Prestwick airport to become one of the first spaceports in the UK could result in thousands of jobs in the area and generate an additional £320m for the UK economy.
"The Growth Deal is an opportunity that we must seize with both hands.
"It will transform the region and place us at the forefront of innovation and productivity - I was delighted to hear the Prime Minster so emphatically restate her support today."
