Parking charges in Ayr town centre are set to increase.

This comes after South Ayrshire Council set their budget earlier this year, agreeing to bring the costs for public off-street car parks in line with private car parks in the town centre.

Charges for designated on-street parking will also go up from Monday, July 2.

Five other council car parks - Blackburn Road, Bellevue Road, South Beach, Walker Hall and Italian Gardens - which are currently free to park in will have charges introduced.

Councillor Ian Cochrane said: "The changes to our car parking charges - whether increases or new charges - were put forward as part of our balancing the budget consultation and were supported by more than half the people who responded.

"They not only provide an important source of income and reduce the savings we have to find, but help us better manage our parking facilities and ensure our towns can be enjoyed by as many people as possible - local residents and visitors alike."
