Motorists are facing a 52.4-mile diversion as part of the A76 closes for resurfacing works.

Although only 0.6 miles of the A76 at Crockroy near Kirkconnell is to close, drivers will be taken on a one-and-a-half hour diversion to avoid the route.

This is part of a £236,000 resurfacing project that was announced last week for the A76.

The trunk road will be closed from Friday, June 8 to Monday, June 11, with an additional two overnight closures on June 11 and June 12.

Scotland TranServ's principal road design engineer, Alan Murray, said: "Scotland TranServ is accelerating a number of projects to address these carriageway defects.

"We've been working with local authorities and key stakeholders to schedule these improvement works to be delivered with as little disruption on the communities as possible.

"The weekend closure will be necessary to carry out this lengthy resurfacing scheme as efficiently as possible."
