First call out a success for station's new £2m lifeboat
The Shannon class lifeboat Elizabeth and Gertrude Allan was delivered to Girvan this year.
A new £2.1m lifeboat has successfully completed its first call out.
The Shannon class all-weather lifeboat Elizabeth and Gertrude Allan was delivered to Girvan Lifeboat Station earlier this year.
She was called out for the first time last weekend after a request from the UK Coastguard operations centre at Belfast.
The lifeboat sped to the scene of a motor cruiser with engine failure just outside Girvan harbour.
Crewmembers tied the stricken vessel to the lifeboat before towing her into the harbour, where she was safely berthed.
An RNLI spokesman said: "With the casualty vessel securely berthed and the occupants safe and in no danger, the lifeboat then returned to her own mooring and was made ready for the next service call.
"This was the first callout for the new £2.1m Shannon class lifeboat, which was officially named on May 10 after formally going on service on April 20."
