Motorists are facing disruption as part of the A77 closes for a £340,000 resurfacing project.

About 1.9km of the A77 northbound at Symington between the Dutch House Roundabout and Bellfield Interchange is to be resurfaced.

The carriageway will be closed from 8pm on Friday until 6am on Monday.

Local diversions will be in place throughout the works, and southbound traffic will not be affected.

Scotland TranServ's principal design engineer, Alan Murray, said: "In order to reduce the impact on local commuters and businesses in this part of Ayrshire, we have scheduled these works to take place over the weekend.

"Because of the depth of the resurfacing project, and to protect the health and safety of our workers and the travelling public, it will be necessary to close the carriageway in this area.

"We have worked closely with local authorities and key stakeholders to carefully schedule these works around major events and ahead of the busy summer season.

"This project is the latest in a series of investments to improve the road surface of the A77.

"A number of other such projects are being planned for later in the year."
