An "inspirational" multi-million pound extension to an East Ayrshire school has been officially opened.

The extension at Hurlford Primary School has been completely transformed after a £3.6m investment from the local council.

Schoolchildren can now use the building's modern dining facilities, fully refurbished toilets, new playrooms and improved accessibility.

The building's fabric has also been refurbished and external play areas redesigned.

At the opening this week staff and councillors were treated to a musical show by pupils of the school, which also incorporates an early years centre.

Councillor Fiona Campbell said: "I was delighted to officially open Hurlford Primary School and Early Childhood Centre's extension.

"The children were so happy and excited to show me their new facilities that have been completely transformed thanks to a £3.6m investment by the council.

"Education is our priority and we are continuing to drive to give our youngest residents unparalleled opportunities to succeed, from the first steps on their learning journey, right through to their final year at school and beyond.

"These facilities will give our children and young people, a superb, bright and inspirational learning environment which will continue to inspire for many more generations to come."
