Controversial plans for £11m council headquarters refused
Locals accused the plans of disturbing the historic layout of the town.
Controversial design plans for South Ayrshire's new £11m council headquarters have been rejected.
The proposals came under fire after being accused of disturbing the historic layout of the town, but councillors said they would take a number of factors into account.
South Ayrshire Council met on Wednesday to discuss the plans for the new multi-million pound building, but decided to refuse them.
The council said options will now be considered to move forward.
A representative for the council said: "The recommendation to approve the planning application for new Council offices and public realm works in Ayr High Street has been refused.
"Councillors rejected proposals and the council is now considering its options."
