Girvan's new £2m lifeboat officially named in ceremony
The all-weather lifeboat has been hailed a 'huge leap forward' in design.
Girvan's new £2m lifeboat has officially been named Elizabeth and Gertrude Allan.
The boat is the first of the RNLI's all-weather lifeboats to be powered by water-jets rather than traditional propellers, making it the most agile and manoeuvrable lifeboat in the charity's fleet.
The new technology has been hailed a "huge leap forward" in lifeboat design with the vessel much quicker and more agile allowing it to reach potential casualties at a faster rate.
Mechanic Callum Govus said: "The new boat is faster and more manoeuvrable than the Silvia Burrell and the way she handles is very impressive.
"All this means that we'll be able to reach casualties more quickly.
"This is a huge leap forward in lifeboat design and will allow us to continue to do our work knowing that we couldn't have a better lifeboat to go to sea with."
