The jury in the murder trial of two Ayrshire women accused of killing a disabled mother has retired to consider its verdict.

Sharon Greenop was found dead in her home in Troon in November 2016.

Shayla and Lynette Greenop, her daughter and sister, deny assault and murder.

The trial has heard more than three weeks of evidence at the High Court in Glasgow.

In her closing statement for the prosecution, advocate depute Ashley Edwards told the High Court in Glasgow the evidence had contained "flashing red lights, signalling guilt" in the case.

Claiming "multiple blows" had been inflicted on the victim, Ms Edwards said: "The abuse and injuries suffered by Sharon Greenop escalated.

"Injuries associated with extreme pain and ultimately resulting in her death."

Defending Lynette Greenop, Frances McMenamin QC said there was no doubt the victim had died a "terrible, slow, painful death," but reminded jurors they could only give a guilty verdict if guilt had been proved beyond reasonable doubt.

The jury did not return its verdict after retiring on Thursday and will resume deliberations on Friday.
