A major resurfacing project on the A77 has been abandoned following complications on site.

Works on the Auchenblane carriageway were due to continue this week but have now been halted.

Scottish Transerv said it has been necessary to postpone the project until further notice, with new designs to be confirmed at a later date.

Alan Murray, Scotland TranServ's principal design engineer said: "Subsequent to detailed investigation works, utilities have been discovered closer to the area of works than previously identified and this will affect the works due to take place this weekend.

"This programme of work was the sixth in a series of projects resurfacing the A77 this spring.

"We will work closely with local communities, councils and other key stakeholders to carefully rescheduling this project to be delivered with minimal disruption."

The A77 investment programme is one of a number of schemes being scheduled by Scotland TranServ to deliver long-term benefits across south west Scotland.
