Detectives are attempting to map the final movements of a woman who was found dead near a canal in Glasgow.

The last confirmed sighting of Allison McAllister was around 6.30pm on Monday March 19.

Her body was discovered 18 hours later on the banks of the Forth and Clyde Canal, near Cleveden Road, Maryhill.

The death of Ms McAllister, from Summerston, is being treated as unexplained and officers are still trying to establish the exact circumstances.

Police Scotland said the public response has been very encouraging but officers have urged the public to help them piece together her whereabouts in the hours before she died.

Ms McAllister was spotted around 5.20pm on March 19 in the Summerston area, near to Asda.

She then got into her blue Vauxhall Mokka car and drives off.

The last time she was seen alive is believed to be on the canal bank, near to Cleveden Road, Maryhill, around 6.30pm on Monday 19 March.

Detective Inspector Craig McPhail said: "It is important that we narrow the timescales to establish the exact circumstances surrounding her death.

"Officers are continuing to carry our door to door enquiries and study CCTV footage in an effort to gather further information."

Alison is white, around 5ft 8in, of slim build with short reddish/brown hair.

Ms McAllister was wearing a dark coloured parka jacket with orange lining and a grey fur trim around the hood, a grey v-neck top, a red and white check scarf, black leggings and black knee-length boots.

She was also carrying a green and white Asda bag.
