Over the Easter weekend, ten drivers were arrested and charged in Ayrshire for alleged drink driving offences.

The eight men and two women, aged between 23 and 70, were all found to be at least twice the legal drink drive limit.

One of the women arrested was found to be five times the limit.

Sergeant Kevin Blackley said: "It is very disappointing that drivers continue to get behind the wheel while under the influence of alcohol and put lives at risk.

"Most of these detections were as a result of proactive policing and officers acting on information from members of the public.

"We will continue to work with communities to identify illegal drivers and improve road safety in Ayrshire.

"The only safe amount of alcohol to drink before driving is none."
