Pantomime raises £3000 for children's diabetes team
The Palace Theatre raises money every year in collection buckets after the annual show.
The children's diabetes team at University Hospital Crosshouse has received a £3120 donation.
The Palace Theatre raises money every year in collection buckets after performances of the annual pantomime, with this year's show being Dick Whittington.
Jackie Livingston, a trustee with the East Ayrshire Leisure Trust, proposed the donation to the team after her son, Alex, was diagnosed with diabetes at age six.
He loves the outdoor camp organised by the Ayrshire Children's Diabetes Fund where he can meet and play with other children who have diabetes.
Ms Livingston said: "They're a fantastic team. Nothing is too much of a problem for the staff.
"The outdoor camps are great for helping the kids to mix with others who also have diabetes and the parents feel safe in the knowledge that staff from the diabetic team are always on hand."
Consultant paediatrician, Dr Scott Williamson, said: "Donations made to the team are put into supporting materials and events, such as our annual outdoor activity weekend in Dumfries and Galloway and our family sports day.
"Over the years, hundreds of children with diabetes from Ayrshire and Arran have attended these events and have found them to be a great support and an excellent way of meeting other children with diabetes and just having great fun.
"We would like to say a huge thanks to all members of the public who contributed to the collection."
