A £1m programme to resurface the A78 north of Largs has been announced.

Scotland TranServ will deliver three separate projects through April, resurfacing approximately 3km of road surface.

As a result of the narrow widths of the A78, trunk roads will be closed in order to complete the works.

Largs North trunk road will be closed from 8pm on April 6, until 6am on April 9.

Skelmorlie South trunk road will be closed from 8pm on April 13 until 6am on April 16, and Wemyss Bay will be closed from 8pm on April 20 until 6am on April 23.

Significant diversion routes will be in place, and motorists and ferry passengers in particular are advised to plan their journey.

Scotland TranServ's principal road design engineer, Alan Murray, said: "We've spoken directly to community councils and asked for their input and agreement in the scheduling and format of this extensive programme of work.

"Due to the limited available road width of the A78 it will be necessary to close the trunk road to ensure the safety of our workers and of the travelling public.

"This unfortunately will mean weekend diversions. We would therefore ask drivers to carefully plan their journeys."
