Local community groups and organisations in Ayr North and the surrounding area are celebrating after being given fresh funding for their work.

More than 380 people turned up to take part in the decision day event where they voted for their favourite community groups.

Among the successful projects was help for the homeless and a new bridge to increase access to Tarbolton Woods

Up to £70,000 was available at the event, with small grants of up to £1500 and larger grants from £1501 to £5000 able to be awarded.

Councillor Douglas Campbell said: "People turned out in large numbers to back local projects that put something back into their communities and I'm pleased this latest event was so well supported.

"The new Ayr Academy was designed to act as a community hub and with groups from across the area getting together to share their experience I hope that many new projects are now being considered as potential partnerships.

"I'd like to thank everyone involved behind the scenes in organising the event and wish all the successful groups the best of luck for their positive projects."
