Community council to be set up by Stevenston residents
Nominations can be submitted to North Ayrshire Council by 12pm on March 6.
A group of local residents have requested that a community council be established in the Stevenston area.
Community councils are voluntary and set up and run by residents to represent their local area alongside politicians.
The council will form part of the Locality Partnerships of North Ayrshire to agree the priorities for each locality to ensure that public agencies and the community work together to achieve the goals.
Individuals can nominate themselves to be a community councillor by applying to North Ayrshire Council with the names of two proposers, who should be a local government elector for the area.
Completed nomination papers must be received by 12pm on March 6.
If between five and ten nominations are received, they will all be appointed to the community council.
However, if over ten nominations are received, a ballot will be held at the election meeting on March 13 where all local electors will attend and cast a vote.
