Two six-year-old girls have been injured after being hit by a car in South Lanarkshire.

The children were struck after running out from between two parked cars on Glasgow Road near Rutherglen.

Emergency services attended the scene and both girls were taken to the Royal Hospital for Sick Children after the incident that took place at around 5.30pm on Sunday night.

One of the children received treatment for a non-life threatening head injury and the other for minor injuries to her body.

Glasgow Road was closed northbound for around three hours after the accident.

Police Scotland confirmed the incident.
