Two land-based engineering trainees from Ayrshire have been shortlisted for a national award.

Lantra Scotland's Land-based and Aquaculture Learner of the Year Awards celebrate apprentices working in the rural sector.

Cameron Howie, 18, and Mathew Howie, 21, have both taken on modern apprenticeships in land-based engineering through Scotland's Rural College (SRUC) Ayr Campus.

Chairman of the judges Ray Jones said: "In early 2018 our independent judging panel were impressed by the incredible enthusiasm, talents and determination to succeed that the candidates demonstrated, and the calibre in some sectors was the highest ever.

"We know from previous years that being a finalist or even getting nominated in Lantra's Land-based and Aquaculture Learner of the Year Awards can provide a foothold into a long-term and rewarding career."

The winners will be announced during an award ceremony at the Dunblane Hydro Hotel on Thursday, March 1.
