East Ayrshire council are warning their residents about bogus tradesmen after scamming alerts were raised.

SR Roofing are the bogus company who are saying they work for the council and will provide a free roof check for those who qualify.

East Ayrshire council have confirmed that this company is not in a contract with the council nor are they authorised by the council to carry out roof inspections.

Trading Standard Services were made aware of SR Roofing calls by a member of the public.

The council are warning their residents to stay vigilant and to report any scams that they come across.

Councillor Jim McMahon said: "SR Roofing are currently calling people in the Irvine Valley and are suggesting that they are working with the Council offering free roof checks. This is not the case.

"The Council is not working with this company and they are not contracted to provide services on behalf of the Council.

"Every year, 3.2 million adults - one in 15 people - across the country fall victim to a scam involving deceptive unsolicited mailings, phone calls, or emails, which are designed to con victims of their cash.

"UK consumers lose around a staggering £3.5 billion to scams every year.

"You should never give out personal information such as bank details over the phone to a cold caller.

"Unscrupulous callers could be looking to get access to important personal information in order to use them for illegal purposes.

"Never be rushed or flustered into making a decision or giving information over the phone.

"If you feel uncomfortable just end the call."
