Motorists face disruption as part of the A77 northbound is closed for three weekends.

Work to install a new pedestrian crossing at Girvan began on Friday night.

The crossing will be at the junction of Ailsa Street West and Henrietta Street.

The scheme has been developed in collaboration with the local community who raised concerns over safety when crossing this busy route.

Scotland TranServ's road safety manager Vincent Tait said: "Following extensive consultation with Police Scotland, local authorities, community groups and elected members we have developed a short programme of works to install this new trunk road crossing.

"In order to complete the works as quickly and safely as possible it will be necessary to close the A77 northbound at this immediate location over the next three weekends.

"A short diversion route will be in place from Shallochpark Roundabout. Southbound traffic will remain unaffected by the works."

The work begins on Friday at 8pm and finishes on Monday at 6am for the remaining weekends in January.
