Two schools in South Ayrshire have collected national awards for their innovate buildings.

Marr College and Tarbolton Community Campus won prizes at the Education Buildings Scotland Awards in Edinburgh.

Secondary school Marr College in Troon was named project of the year after transforming the 1935 building into a new all-weather facility that meets modern standards.

The improved south wing of the building and the new PE block opened in November 2017.

Tarbolton Community Campus secured first place in the sustainability category.

After opening in March 2017, the new building will be used for early years, primary education, a community centre and library.

Councillor Peter Henderson said: "These two awards are testament to the dedication of the teams that delivered two projects that have made a real difference to the education of our children and young people.

"The extensive project to upgrade and extend Marr College has breathed new life into a landmark building, while in rural Tarbolton we've provided a range of facilities for people to use through the community campus."
