People who have lost loved ones are invited to remember them at a special event this Christmas.

South Ayrshire Council will be holding its annual candlelight service on December 10.

The service at Masonhill Crematorium will include poems and Christmas carols.

In previous years around 150 people have attended the event, which will be led by reverend David Gemmell.

"It's a way to give people some space from the busy Christmas period and to focus on loved ones," he said.

"Coming to this type of event is a way of acknowledging that you're not alone and you're able to feel a sense of community.

"The doors are open to those of all faiths and those with no particular faith. We make it as inclusive as possible and hopefully anyone who comes along can get something from it."
