The A77 northbound Kilmarnock bypass from Spittalhill to Inchgotrick Bridge will be closed this weekend for resurfacing.

The £330,000 project is part of Transport Scotland's trunk road maintenance programme.

The resurfacing starts at 8pm on Friday and runs until 6am on Monday.

Scotland TranServ's principal roads design engineer Alan Murray said: "In order to resurface this stretch of the A77 northbound as efficiently and safely as possible, it will be necessary to close the carriageway over the weekend, with a local diversion in place.

"The works will address existing issues with surface defects and structural cracking.

"We have worked in liaison with Police Scotland, local authorities and key stakeholders to schedule these works for the period of least impact on businesses and commuters.

"It is important with winter approaching and temperatures dropping that our works are completed."

Motorists are advised to plan ahead before setting out, with additional journey times of around 20 minutes forecast.
