Expanded care home for people with dementia approved
Creggan Bahn Court has permission to build a two-storey care home with ten beds.
A dementia unit in South Ayrshire's expansion plans have been approved.
Creggan Bahn Court on Seafield Road will now build a two-storey care home providing a ten-bed unit for people living with the condition.
Councillors of the regulatory panel recently agreed with recommendations to approve the planning application.
A spokesman for Creggan Bahn Court said: "It's looking to be about September 2018 before it's up and running.
"Right now what we have is an open home here and we find it difficult to mix people with dementia and others who have different needs.
"The dementia sufferers have especially demanding needs so it is hard to mix them together in groups."
He added: "So one of the main reasons the extension is needed is to facilitate the people with high levels of dementia that right now we have to turn away since we don't have the facility to accommodate them.
"We don't want to do that so this so the extension is a perfect way we can cater to not just them but everyone much better.
"There will be ten extra beds which aren't filled at the moment but at any time we have a big waiting list so it won't take long to fill them up."
