Work on a multi-million pound windfarm for East Ayrshire has been halted by local planning officials.

Community Windpower was given the go-ahead to start building on Sneddon Law, just outside Kilmarnock, in 2015 but first had to carry out a "satisfactory" water risk assessment.

Permission for the 15-turbine development was then withdrawn over concerns about the quality of the assessment but the company appealed to the Scottish Government for approval.

Planning officials said "fully operational" water supplies would have to be place before work could begin.

Community Windpower began test drilling in January this year without meeting the new conditions, leading to a lengthy legal battle between them and East Ayrshire Council.

The company has now been ordered to stop digging after residents complained it was polluting their water supply.

Checks to ensure the quality of the water supply can be maintained must be carried out before work on the windfarm can continue but the Scottish Government are currently seeking an appeal against this.
