South Ayrshire has launched a drive to get more people into home care careers.

A recruitment open day will be held at the John Pollock Centre in Ayr on November 20 as part of the campaign.

Interviews will also take place on the day for eligible candidates, with flexible contracts of up to 12 months available.

The Care at Home service provides essential care and support tasks and provides extended personal care in a way that respects dignity and privacy.

Due to an ageing population and increasing demand there is a need to employ more people to work at sites across the area.

South Ayrshire Health and Social Care Partnership Integration Joint Board chairwoman Julie Dettbarn said: "We're committed to supporting people to live full lives at home and these positions will go a long way to supporting a wide-range of individuals in South Ayrshire.

"We're throwing open our doors to potential candidates, with multiple positions available to individuals that are good with people and who are motivated to take control of their own hours."

She added: "Lack of experience is no barrier to becoming a good care at home worker, with training provided.

"We're serious about giving people meaningful jobs and, with good career prospects and starting wages above the living wage, these positions are a great way to get started."
