A knife-wielding robber threatened staff before stealing money from a till at a McColl's store.

The incident happened on Fleming Way in Hamilton, South Lanarkshire, at 7.45pm on Wednesday.

A 23-year-old man who was working in the store at the time was left badly shaken but not injured following the robbery.

The thief, who stole more than £100, is 5ft 7in and was wearing a dark hooded Parka jacket and black jeans.

He was also wearing a white baseball cap and black trainers with a white sole.

Officers are carrying out door-to-door enquiries and will be checking CCTV.

Detective sergeant Martin McKendrick said: "I am appealing to people who may have been in the area around the time of the incident to contact us.

"It may be that the suspect was loitering outside the shop before committing the crime or someone could have seen him run off from the shop.

"At the time, this may not have seemed unusual or suspicious but in light of a local shop being targeted in a robbery, your information could prove vital."
