Ardrossan Sea Cadets celebrate group's 25th anniversary
They'll celebrate their 25th birthday with a special ceremony on Wednesday.
Ardrossan Sea Cadets are celebrating the group's 25th anniversary this week with a special ceremony.
Cadets old and new are invited to the town's civic centre to celebrate the milestone and talk about what it is doing now.
The first sea cadet unit was created by communities to support young people and educate them on navy based skills.
The Ardrossan Unit, called TS Gannet, was formed in 1992 in the Erskine Church Hall in Saltcoats before moving to Dock Road in Ardrossan and then to Harbour Road.
The unit is now home to its own Marine Engineering School with full accommodation facilities.
John MacDonald, of Ardrossan Sea Cadets, said: "It's a huge milestone to celebrate. The core values are still the same - integrity, honesty and leadership, and as a whole organisation UK-wide we're looking towards giving young people values for later life.
"It gives them so many skills because it's no longer about just going boating or tying a knot, they can do engineering, catering, meteorology and they can learn to fly.
"Looking through the archives has been quite incredible and emotional."
