A woman who has been missing since she left Clydebank for London a fortnight ago has failed to meet her husband in the toy store where she was last seen.

Karen Brown, 47, left her home on Kirkwood Avenue on October 14, but did not turn up for her shift at a nearby Asda.

But four days later, as her family prepared to address the media, it emerged the mother-of-two had been spotted in London.

A woman from Clydebank recognised Mrs Brown in Hamleys and CCTV confirmed she had been in the store on the morning of Tuesday October 17.

Since then there have been no confirmed sightings of the checkout operator.

On Friday Mrs Brown's husband Jock, 48, confirmed he would travel to London and would be in Hamleys between midday and 1pm today.

Mr Brown checked into the famous toy store on Facebook and posted: "I am here. Fingers crossed."

But Police Scotland later confirmed Mrs Brown did not show up.

A force spokeswoman said: "Karen did not make contact with her husband whilst he was in London and our search for her is continuing.

"We would again appeal for her to get in touch, at least with police, to let us know that she is ok."

The original Hamleys sighting enabled police to establish Mrs Brown had boarded a Megabus to London at Buchanan Street Bus Station at around 8.20am on Saturday October 14, less than an hour after she left home.

She is described as white, 5ft 6in of medium build with collar length brown hair.

Mrs Brown was wearing a pink fleece top, white trainers and carrying an Asda 'bag for life' when she was captured on CCTV at Buchanan Street bus station.

A woman fitting her description and wearing the same clothing, apart from a burgundy jacket,  was seen leaving Hamleys store on October 17.

Mr Brown, who made an emotional plea for information the following day, said: "We love you and are missing you terribly.

"We just want you to come back home, but if you are not ready to do this, please let police know that you are safe."

Inspector David Quinn, of Clydebank Police Office, said: "Extensive enquiries are continuing to trace Karen, and we are liaising with our colleagues at the Metropolitan Police in London and also with Hampshire Constabulary, as she is known to have links to that area too.

"Anyone with information that will help our enquiry should contact Clydebank Police Station through 101 quoting reference number 3818 of the October 14."
