Young people across North Ayrshire are being urged to apply for the chance to win funding for projects in their community.

A total of £50,000 has been allocated from the council's North Ayrshire Youth Bank fund to deliver the scheme, which aims to celebrate the Scottish Government's Year of Young People (YoYP) 2018.

Youth groups, organisations and individuals aged eight to 25 will be given the chance to pursue their ideas to benefit young people in the area.

The successful candidates can win up to £1000 of funding.

Applications must be based around one of the six YoYP themes of culture, education, enterprise and regeneration, equality and discrimination, and health and participation.

After the closing date of November 24, a shortlist of up to 15 projects per locality will be selected to progress to an online vote.

Young people from across North Ayrshire will then vote on the projects they want to see happen during the YoYP and the winners then announced.

A share of the funding should be delivered within 12 months.

Cabinet member for communities councillor Louise McPhater said: "It is vital that we involve young people in the participatory budgeting process as we recognise how important their roles are within our communities.

"Next year will be an incredibly important year for young people throughout Scotland as it provides an opportunity like never before to shine the spotlight on the tremendous work they do, the important roles they play and the positive impact they have on our communities."
