A Scot who was freed after being handed a three-month jail sentence in Dubai for touching another man's hip has been reunited with his family at Glasgow Airport.

Jamie Harron, 27, from Stirling, flew back into the UK on Tuesday night following a months-long ordeal which began when he was arrested for public indecency in July.

He said he touched the man at a bar in the city only because he wanted to avoid spilling his drink.

Mr Harron was stripped of his documents and left stranded in the United Arab Emirates facing jail, jobless and in huge amounts of debt as a result of expenses and legal fees.

He was then sentenced to three months in prison on Sunday but the decision was overturned on Monday in an order by United Arab Emirates prime minister and Dubai ruler Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum.

In emotional scenes at Glasgow Airport, Mr Harron was greeted by his mother Patricia, father Graham and sister Jordan on his return late on Tuesday.

Speaking to the press, he described the saga as a "shambles".

Asked if he had kept faith that he would eventually get home, Mr Harron replied: "No... I didn't see the light at the end of the tunnel, if I'm honest."

He added: "I still couldn't believe it had actually happened and what it was that was actually going on.

"Even now, when I'm home, I still can't believe that it was actually three and a half months."

Mr Harron originally travelled to Dubai on a two-day stopover while flying back to work in Afghanistan.

The incident occurred on July 15 at the Rock Bottom bar in the emirate, where he was out with a friend.

After being accused of touching the man, police arrived and arrested Mr Harron.

The Scot said a prosecutor later told him he had been charged with drinking alcohol and public indecency.

Now he is back, he said he is looking forward to a "good night's sleep" in his own bed.
