A public consultation will be held over plans to close the chemotherapy unit at Ayr Hospital.

NHS Ayshire and Arran said it will hold events throughout the region in December.

Patients would be sent to Kilmarnock if services are centralised.

In response to a customer tweet asking when the consultation on the closure will be, NHS Ayrshire and Arran responded saying: "We will be holding events throughout Ayrshire in December.

"These will be publicised in newspapers and through social media and posters."

Director for acute services Liz Moore said: "The Ayrshire chemotherapy treatment service has been under review since the beginning of 2015.

"This review is to ensure that chemotherapy services are continuously provided to a high standard by the right staff.

"We also need a service which will be able to cope with the increasing numbers of people expected to require the service into the future, and also to ensure we can continue to deliver increasingly complex chemotherapy treatments safely."
